This collection contains selected papers from the The 3rd International Conference on Humanities Education, Law and Social Sciences held in Makassar, Indonesia on 22 – 23 June 2023. This event was hosted by the Himpunan Sarjana Pendidikan Ilmu-Ilmu Sosial Indonesia (HISPISI)in Collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law Universitas Negeri Makassar.
The conference was held to bring researchers, academics and policymakers together to reflect on the future of social sciences within the era of Society 5.0, and the ethical consequences of research done within this field. As scientific objectives and methodologies shift with technological advancements and social development, growing concerns around the social and moral responsibilities of researchers within the conference incite crucial discussions that address these concerns.
This KnE Social Sciences collection contains 118 peer-review papers that offer three broad types of original research. The first type of research deals with inefficient and inequitable models of research that often favour some academic voices and models over others. The second type of research offers solutions to these issues via a range of methodological approaches to social science research, focusing on issues such as plagiarism, e-learning models, and diversity and cultural exchange within academic spaces. The final segment portrays practical examples of how cultural and socially conscious research methods can be implemented to produce quality research, by exploring a variety of topical examples including poverty alleviation, wedding traditions in a globalised world, and community resilience during times of natural disaster. Collectively, these articles contribute to the broader discussions around the roles and responsibilities of social sciences in an exponentially changing world.
