This collection contains selected papers from the 1st World Conference on Gender Studies (WCGS), held in Malang, East Java Indonesia on 23rd October 2019. This event was hosted by the Research Centre for Gender Studies and Health, Universitas Negeri Malang, and received sponsorship from Universiti Malaya, the National Family Planning Coordinating Agency Indonesia (BKKBN), Leiden University and Melbourne University.

This event focused on the highly topical theme of “Gender Studies towards Inclusive Societies,” with a particular emphasis on research from prominent scholars in gender, social work and education studies, who shared their insights and expertise regarding various strategic issues relating to gender and population.

This well-rounded collection contains 39 peer-reviewed papers exploring various elements linked with gender studies. Topics include: religion and populism; democracy, social justice, and policy; environmental concerns and the mitigation of disasters; mental and community health; sustainable education and family social lives; creative arts, cultural studies and media communications; empowerment and industrial economic relations; and innovative technologies, science, and sustainable engineering.

These papers will be of interest to academics, researchers, practitioners, teachers, and students researching or working on all areas of gender, social work and education studies.
