This collection contains selected papers from the International research conference Questions of Expertise in Culture, Arts and Design held in Yekaterinburg, Russia on June 6-7, 2019. This event was hosted by the Department of Art History and Sociocultural Technologies, Ural Federal University.

The conference was held to discuss emerging approaches to the concept of expert assessment in culture, art and design, and explore the increasingly important role of the contemporary humanistic scholar as an expert capable of mediating between the diverse institutions, groups and agendas that comprise modern society and influence its culture.

This collection contains 40 peer-review papers on contemporary issues of expert assessment in the fields of art history, cultural studies, design and decorative and applied arts. Topics include, among others, issues of cultural memory, role of art in urban space, expert assessment of artistic objects, issues of attribution and assessment in arts and crafts, role of design in modern society and culture.

These papers will be of interest to academics, students or professionals researching or working in the area of culture, arts and design, especially those involved in expert assessment of art objects and cultural processes, mediation between institutions and communities, working with cultural memory etc.
