Sudan Journal of Medical Sciences is a project of the Continuous Medical Education program at the Faculty of Medicine - Omdurman Islamic University. Sudan JMS is a peer-reviewed, Open Access journal which publishes four issues per year.

This special issue, titled "Sudanese Traditional Medicine: Past and Present Practices and Healing," documents and critically appraises Sudan’s living healing traditions, herbal pharmacopeia, spiritual and ritual practices, and manual therapies. Through historical analyses, ethnobotanical surveys, and clinical perspectives, we explore evidence-based pathways for integration with contemporary care, including safety, quality, and regulatory frameworks; priorities for research on medicinal plants and bioactive leads; ethics, intellectual property, and the safeguarding of indigenous knowledge; and models of collaboration between healers, clinicians, and policymakers. Studies and reviews highlight the resilience of community-based practices, their cultural logic, and their relevance in areas where access to biomedical services is limited. The issue offers a balanced roadmap for research, policy, and practice that honors heritage while improving patient outcomes.
