This collection contains selected papers from the international conference Integration Processes in the Russian and International Research Domain: Experience and Prospects held in Petrozavodsk, Russia on October 7th-8th, 2021. This event was hosted by the Karelian Research Centre (KarRC) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
This conference was held as a dedication to the 75th anniversary of KarRC RAS. It provided an opportunity to showcase the integration processes of interdisciplinarity, interactions with educational institutions and international activities. The conference brought together researchers from KarRC RAS and their colleagues from other scientific organizations focusing on the processes of integration in the natural sciences and humanities.
This KnE Social Sciences collection contains 25 peer-reviewed papers on interdisciplinary basic and applied research in different areas of science, essentially exploring what we know about people and the environment, and our place within it. Several researchers assess biodiversity or present their findings on underlying zoological and ecological characteristics. Others discuss the existing and potential methodological and legal frameworks for monitoring and protecting wildlife and the environment. This is balanced with the papers of researchers who instead focus on local populations and cultural groups, to understand their history, socioeconomics and cultural practices, and how their identities are formed and perceived by themselves and others.
These papers will be of interest to academics, students or professionals researching or working in zoology, botany, ecology, earth sciences, law, anthropology, history, economics, political science, linguistics, sociology, or more broadly in the natural sciences, humanities or interdisciplinary approaches.
