Iraq has witnessed significant development achievements in various sectors, including transport infrastructure. Transport investments are important and have important political, economic and social dimensions at the level of countries and individuals. As a result of the rising cost of transportation services and the maintenance of existing services, many countries have tended to develop long-term and short-term strategies that focus on trying to maintain and benefit from current investments in the transport sector. Government investments in the transport sector have been one of the main focuses of public expenditures in Iraq, however there has also been a significant acceleration in private investment. This study explores some of these developments and the longer term strategies being put in place.
