International Conference of Occupational Health and Safety (ICOHS 2017)

KnE Life Sciences / International Conference of Occupational Health and Safety (ICOHS 2017)

Work has an impact on the safety and health of humans working in organizations. The organizations are influenced by the socio-political context. Organizations may be considered a system that may contain hazards, and which must be controlled to minimize the risk. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) becomes a necessity for developing countries including Indonesia in ensuring that its citizens live and work in a healthy and safe environment. OHS also becomes a necessity for industries or certain activities in operating productively. A few such industries are:

• Formal industry sectors (oil and gas, mining, construction, etc.)

• Informal sectors (small–medium enterprises)

• Public service sectors (hospital, logistic, freight forwarding service, etc.)

In answering the global challenges that come from the current era upon OHS necessities in some industrial sectors and activities, Occupational Health and Safety Department, Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia, answers those necessities through developing and organizing scientific activities, researches, and community services. The department has developed five scholarly, research activities, and community services by forming peer groups, which are:

• Occupational Health

• Occupational Safety

• Ergonomics

• Industrial Hygiene

• Human and Psychosocial Aspects

Bearing in mind that the necessities in related sectors and the moral responsibility as an educational institute in delivering, spreading, and educating people on OHS's importance as values that are worth fighting in answering global challenges, the ICOHS 2017 forum was organized to unite academics, researchers, practitioners, industries, and policymakers.
