Abstract:
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children manifests as impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity, disrupting developmental expectations. Genetic and environmental factors contribute to the condition, potentially impacting a child’s ability to focus on tasks. This study investigates the effectiveness of Behavioral Play Therapy (BPT) in improving attention span in children diagnosed with ADHD. The intervention was designed using a single-case experiment method, focusing on a seven-year-old boy with ADHD, diagnosed based on DSM-5-TR criteria. The therapy utilized structured play activities to help the subject concentrate on tasks of varying difficulty levels. The intervention’s impact was measured through a pre- and post-intervention attention span assessment, with results indicating significant improvements. Before the therapy, the subject’s average attention span was 9 seconds, increasing to 39 seconds after therapy and 1 minute and 47 seconds during follow-up. These findings highlight the potential of BPT in improving attention in children with ADHD, supporting cognitive and behavioral development. Parental involvement and education also played a crucial role in maintaining these improvements post-intervention. The study concludes that BPT offers a promising approach to managing ADHD symptoms, providing children with skills to enhance their focus and task completion.
